Children’s Dental Care

Why We Love Treating Children

There is nothing like seeing a smile on a child’s face. At Dental Care East Hanover, we do everything we can to make sure that smile stays with your child for years and years to come. After all, the experiences that children have at the dentist office lay the groundwork for their expectations and feelings towards dental care when they become an adult.

That’s why our team at Dental Care East Hanover patiently works with children at a pace that is comfortable for them. We strive to provide a supportive and nurturing environment for children to relieve any stress or fears that they (or their parents!) may have. Our caring staff members help to put your child at ease, knowing that an enjoyable visit to the dentist can shape a positive future of dental health.

kids1Fun Dental Visits

Who said that going to the dentist can’t be fun? At Dental Care East Hanover, we have a dedicated children’s area that is complete with books, toys, and PlayStation video games for young patients to enjoy. Our friendly staff members aim to make every dental experience a positive one and will often include fun prizes in your child’s visit. We also have mounted HDTVs above each dental chair for kids to watch children’s television shows and cartoons during their appointment. It is important to us that your child develops a positive view of oral health that can last for a lifetime.

kids3At what age should my child start dental visits?

According to the American Dental Association and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, a child should begin visiting the dentist when his or her first tooth erupts in the mouth. Typically, this means that a child’s first dental visit occurs no later than age one or two.

Early intervention is key to ensuring the health of your child’s teeth. So, do not wait until there is a real problem before bringing your child to see the dentist. It is much easier to prevent oral health issues from happening than it is to treat problems down the road. The earlier that your child starts visiting the dentist, the sooner he or she can start building good oral health habits.

How often should my child visit the dentist?

Children are recommended to visit the dentist every six months for a cleaning and check-up. At Dental Care East Hanover, we provide your child with a complete cleaning and exam. Our team gently removes plaque, which can cause gum infections and bad breath, and ensure that any potential dental problems are detected early.

When should I consider braces for my child?

There are a number of reasons why kids might need braces, including everything from having teeth that are crooked, overlapping, or overcrowded, to having an overbite or underbite (known as malocclusion). The appropriate timing for your child ultimately depends on the age that your child begins seeing an orthodontist. Generally speaking, the typical age range for children receiving braces is six years old through the teenage years.

By starting your child’s orthodontic treatment early, you can help to minimize and prevent future dental problems. Call our Dental Care East Hanover office to schedule your free consultation today!
